Dexion helps Boots benefit from turn-key warehouse solution

Boots Group

Case Study Overview

Customer: Boots Group

Products/Services used: Pallet Racking system; Push-back Racking.

Business need:
Following a business review, Boots made a strategic decision to consolidate its retail supply chain while automating its central warehouse. As part of this ambitious project, Boots decided to develop a fast-pick operation for its top 100 products by converting an existing 5,000-square-meter (53,820-sq-ft.) area in one of their warehouses to handle high volume top-selling lines.

Dexion solution:
Dexion maximized the available space in this warehouse by creating a pick tunnel below a single-story push-back solution, with pallet live lanes servicing the tunnel.

The re-configured warehouse is open six days a week, and handles a wide range of goods, from diapers to chips and soft drinks. Goods are put into roll-containers (Rocos); approximately 2000 Rocos are used each day. The solution was designed to effortlessly handle differing product weights.

Chosen by Boots on a competitive bid, Dexion unequivocally fulfilled its promise by creating the ultimate fast-pick operation for the top 100 lines.

Boots’ selection of Dexion as partner for this challenging project has been a true success, and has enabled the most efficient day-to-day order picking possible for its UK-wide business. This turn-key solution has ensured that Boots is well placed to meet the business demands in future decades.

“Boots chose Dexion for its competitive pricing, design and ability to provide us with a complete turn-key operation. Dexion had excellent knowledge of what was required, and they supported us throughout the project.” – Dominic Reilly, Project Manager, Boots Group
